When my sister and I arrived in Roma last month, I started in right away with pointing out the amazing Pini di Roma (Pines of Rome - seen below) which is one of the first things one notices upon exiting Fumicino Airport.
By the way: the airport wasn't too difficult to manage this time. It can be so taxing at times but arriving at 7:45AM is a far easier experience. I do wish, however, that one could simply walk out the door and get into a vehicle at that airport. It's kind of a drag to have to exit and walk quite a ways to get to your driver's waiting vehicle.
Ok: back to the trees. My dear sister became rather taken with the trees - as most are. We learned from one of our guides that pignoli (pine nuts) come from these trees. They are so striking if you've never seen them.
We Lamothes grew up on Cypress Road so, the stately Cipressi (Cypress Trees, below) of Tuscany and Umbria have special significance for me. Seems Blanche, my sister, was quite taken with them, too.
